An Introduction to Chief69’s Way of the Bboy

The Bboy/Bgirl (Break/Bronx -boy/girl) is the pulse and heartbeat of Hip Hop as a viable and youth driven social movement. This dance goes back to the late 1960’s and early 70’s in the early form of ‘Rocking’ and ‘Going off’ or the ‘Boi-oi-oing’. Over time it translated, transformed and transcended into the Footwork and Power, Writing and Emceeing, Knowledge of Self and Metaphysics and don’t you forget who laid the platform; the DeeJay.

Hip Hop did not invent anything, not even Bboying, but it was infact a synergy. A re-invention of the energy that is ancient to all people on this planet and build on the energy and values of Love, Peace, Unity and Fun, Knowledge, Wisdom, Understanding, Overstanding and Innerstanding and the Oneness of the Mind, Body and the Spirit alike.

WHAT IS A BBOY? DO WE ONLY DANCE TO BREAKBEATS? WHAT IS A CYPHER? WHAT DOES A JAM REALLY HAVE TO LOOK LIKE? ARE HIP HOPPAS POLITICALLY, SOCIALLY AND SPIRITUALLY AWARE WITHOUT WORDS?

These are some of the pressing questions we always address in my world. We Hip Hoppas are always re-educating others on Hip Hop due to the general failure of mainstream media to properly tell our story, because they are outsiders and not from within the cultural movement. We are here to change that.

I am Nelson ‘Chief69’ Seda, a Brooklyn Born, Bronx based Bboy/Emcee/Writer and Community organizer.

I am just 23 and a little older than half the age of Hip Hop as we know it. Going way back to 1973 Starting with DJ Kool Herc of course and  his merry go round technique, to then truly developing with the Amen Ra Afrika Bambataa and the ideologies and philosophy presented and upheld to this very day by The Universal Zulu Nation, which I am a very proud and humbled member of.

I am also a member of one of the Original Bboy crews, TBB aka The Bronx Boys Rocking crew which was formed in 1975 by founders Batch Cash and Shark. First as a Writing or Graffiti crew tagging busses and the Bronx streets to then becoming a Rocking crew as we would call it today. The godfather Batch himself is proudly awaiting his return to the Hip Hop world soon while he is incarcerated due to life mistakes, like many other unfamed pioneers.

Many individuals from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd generations of Hip Hop share and have learned from much similar trials and tribulations. The 70’s,80’s and 90s’ have taken our Kings and Queens, far too many great talented and potential leaders are no longer with us in the Hip Hop world because of the Crack Era, Drugs, Violence, the Street life and Social Ills in life that still affect us all and the masses of the globe in 2014.

Allow me to just state that we are all lucky to embrace any of the pioneers who still grace us with their presence.

I will be honored to provide you with articles to help answer your questions, concerns and clear any misconceptions on the Way of the Bboy or Bgirl as it is and will help with sharing my knowledge on The Tika. I am always a student of my craft and a scholar of Hip Hop.

If you ever find yourself in the NYC, Bronx area; come see me, I am always at the local jams, teaching youth and keeping it raw, real and straight up Bboy style! As from every other corner of the earth, you can find me right here.

Peace Love and Light !!
